WORKSHOPS AND MUSIC IN COMMUNITIES

Los Angeles Carnival On Tour partners with schools, cities and community organizations to present arts education workshops and events.

Our instructors encourage students to use their imagination to conceptualize designs, and teach them the skills to use their designs to create masks, costumes and other arts projects. Our team members also partner with other teaching artists and performers. to present a variety of programs. All workshops are free to students.

Los Angeles Carnival On Tour

Los Angeles Carnival on Tour

Los Angeles Carnival On Tour™ is the three time 1st place winner of the Kathryn Dunham Dance Award in the Martin Luther King Jr. (Kingdom Day) Parade in Los Angeles.

The ensemble consists of dancers, musicians and educators, and can be presented with one or up to 50 or more musicians, and costumed performers depicting a variety of themes.

The talented members create unforgettable experiences for organizations and events by presenting a multi-cultural theatrical experience in live and living colors! Audiences experience true carnival spirit as they don fantastic carnival costumes, shed their inhibitions and learn the delicate art of ‘carnivaling’ to the syncopated rhythms and movement of the Caribbean. This family-friendly explosion of sound, motion and color never fails to thrill audiences and tantalize their waistlines!

COMING SOON….Los Angeles Carnival Starlight Parade.

In 2024, MARIKEL will re-imagines the annual Los Angeles Carnival as a community specific event. The event is poised to be a contemporary arts and cultural festival and parade, designed to make Leimert Park and the Crenshaw community a living carnival destination.

LA Carnival Arts in Education

LA Carnival Arts in Education™ is an arts education program of creative residencies. It uses world traditions of festival and carnival arts to deliver standard-based instruction and hands-on experiences that explore common global traditions.

K-12 ARTS EDUCATION RESIDENCIES

The program is designed in residencies with modules for grades K-12. Each lesson incorporates the students own cultural knowledge while introducing them to values other than their own. Participants are supported to interpret the integrated information with experiential work in art, design, music, writing, mathematics, dance, performance and public presentation.

 PROGRAM IMPACT

This program provides cross-cultural arts experiences for students from socially underserved and culturally underexposed communities. Students learn skills across a wide spectrum of disciplines while they explore their creativity and learn about different cultural values. Participants are also introduced to opportunities to enhance their skills with options of pursuing careers in the creative industries.
